Today I am sharing how I close the opening of your bag by hand using the (invisible) ladder stitch! It might take a little longer than using your machine but the result is so much neater and definitely worth the extra time.

But see for yourself…

Technique

If you're new to sewing by hand or want to refresh your stitching skills - please check out my designated blog post and video tutorial on how close a seam by hand using the ladder stitch.

Materials

You don't have to buy anything really! We are closing the opening by hand using needle thread. Nothing you don't already have at home.

But of course... if you're curious about some of the materials I am using, please have a look below for more details.

Thread. For sewing by hand I am using Aurifil 50wt in white. It's strong and won't be visible later on. Great for sewing by hand!

Basic quilty notions. And finally, you'll need a sharp needle - it just makes this step so much easier. I know they are a little pricier than the cheap supermarket ones but if you like to treat yourself, this is one item I can highly recommend to actually spend some money on. Additionally I am using this thimble and needle threader and again wonder clips to hold everything in place.

Share your progress!

And now the fun bit! The thing we've all been waiting for. Your finished Quilted Boxy Pouch. Please share your bag over on Instagram (or Facebook) using the #quiltedboxypouch for all of us to see. I am so excited and can't wait to see your finished quilty bag. Eeeeep!

Your biggest cheerleader right here!!!

And thats's a wrap. You done it! You created an amazing zipper pouch out of scraps and things you already had at home. Now... the sky is the limit. Quilted bags for everyone!!!

Take care and big quilty hugs,

Laura x

"A boxy pouch with no interior binding? That’s a winner every time. It’s beginner friendly, sews up quick in three sizes (I thought the mini was particularly cute!) and like I said: no binding.”

“The Quilted Boxy Pouch was so easy and honestly FUN to make. I will be making many more.”
