A while ago I was asked by the lovely people of RJR if I would like to make a quilt using their wonderful Cotton Supreme Solids range. Hahaha, what a question. Always, of course. Their solids are coming in a beautiful range of shades and oh my, they are so incredibly soft. Soft as butter as my son claims.
So, these were some of the solids I ordered for my daughter's quilt. Some dreamy shades of peach and pink, my daughter's favourite colours (and mine too as you might have guessed).
I decided to go for a modern but simple design as I planned to make it all about the quilting. This was my first attempt at hand quilting but it had to be perfect. So I picked some lush pink and peach Aurifil and went with 12wt in the end (I never regretted it and since them I'm hooked, 12wt is just amazing and such a dream to work with). After reading plenty tutorials I decided to be brave enough and give it a go and it was so worth it. Hahaha, it didn't even take me too long. Win win.
As the RJR solids are so soft and delicate, the hand quilting part was super easy. I took about 4-5 stitches per needle and got the whole quilt done in about three weeks (I was quilting every night for about an hour or two). Not too bad, right. And the result is amazing. I love this quilt so much and so does my daughter.
And here the finished quilt. It's not that big but as it is super windy here where we live, my husband needed the help of one of our local fisherman. Eventually they got to hold it neatly to show you the design.
AND of course, a wee while later my son also wanted a quilt for his bed. So I made him a blue version. Again. Modern but simple indesign but I put all my love into the hand quilting.
Thanks so much to RJR for providing me with your adorable Cotton Supreme Solids. Both quilts are treasured by me and my kids and will be loved for many nights and years to come!
