Video Tutorial
And if you're a fellow visual learner, please see for yourself how easy the NESTY is to make. In this bonus step by step video tutorial I share every single bit you have to know.
No gatekeeping. As always.
Please watch the full video tutorial for the NESTY here.
And of course make sure to follow me over on YouTube for more.
Sewing Pattern
Now let's talk about the pattern a little more.
This is what you'll get.
The pattern comes in four sizes and the Nesty Formula, so you can make a custom Nesty for each of your devices. No guesswork guaranteed.
The pattern is for beginners (never inserted a zipper... you'll be fine!) and works a bit like a skill builder. I also share how to make a scrappy patchwork one with you but more about that later.
Finished sizes (all in wxh):
- Phone Nesty: approx. 4.25" x 6.75"
- Kindle Nesty: approx. 5.75" x 6.75"
- iPad Nesty: approx. 8.25" x 10.25"
- MacBook Nesty: approx. 9.75" x 12.75"
Patchwork Nesty
Now my favourite bit. The Patchwork Nesty. This one is particularly for all the quilters and fabric scrap enthusiasts.
Grab your favourite scraps and I show you in the step by step pattern how I piece together my patchwork panels. Making a truly one of a kind Nesty.
You can watch my YouTube video tutorial patchwork piecing over here.
Materials for your Nesty
Let's talk about materials. You ready?
As always - you won't need a lot. I made this pattern super easy and accessible. No need to buy crazy fancy supplies, notions or materials.
Next to your copy of the pattern, you will need fabric, thread, left over batting from your last quilt, soft and stable if you're making the iPad or MacBook Nesty, a zipper and your basic sewing supplies.
And here's the link to my Amazon Storefront where you can find all the quilty notions I love and use, all in one place.
Fabric I like using quilting cotton and here, here and here are a few of my favourites. Whatever you fancy really.
Thread Any thread will do. I like a combination of classic Aurifil 50wt for construction and 28wt for all visible seams (top stitching along the edge and machine quilting).
Batting Left over batting from your last quilt will do. I like using this one, but whatever you have at home will do! And if you're planning to make either the iPad or MacBook Nesty, you'll need some Soft and Stable for extra protection.
Zipper. And then you will need a zipper (6" for the phone Nesty, 8" for the kindle Nesty, 10" for the iPad Nesty and 12" for the MacBook Nesty). I like to buy zipper in bulk and just use them for everything. Or these cute ones with the round zipper pull.
Basic Sewing Supplies You will need your sewing machine, rotary cutter, cutting mat, ruler, hera marker, pen, binding clips, scissors and maybe a seam ripper (just in case).
And of course. If you're planning to make a patchwork bag, you will need a selection of prints. But I am sure you have plenty of those at home. Everything you probably have laying around already. No need to spend more money.
Ohhh... and before I forget. Bonus points for mix and matching your zippers. Switching around your zipper pulls is not only fun but oh so cute. Making your little bag even more unique.
You can find the blog post and full video tutorial for it over here. Trust me - you don't want to miss this.

And that's a wrap, my friend. The Nesty is probably the most handy zipper pouch you'll ever make.
Now make a phone Nesty for yourself or a kindle Nesty for your faerie book obsessed bestie (no judgment here, I love the bat boys myself 🦇). Or a matching set, how cute would that be?
I truly hope you'll love them as much as I do.
Ohh and of course, if you have any questions please don't hesitate to reach out. I am only an email (laura@sweetcinnamonroses.com) away and here to help. Even though I know you can totally do it!!!
As always. I hug your face.
